7.6 Planning and Decision-Making
Planning AI figures out a sequence of steps to reach a goal - like your maps app finding the fastest route.
Chapter 7: Major Areas of AI
Planning is about working out what to do, in what order, to reach a goal. The AI considers the current state, possible actions, and which path gets to the goal best.
Your maps app is the classic example: it searches through possible routes and picks the fastest, using algorithms like A* (A-star), which was originally developed in 1968 for a robot named Shakey. Games use the same idea for characters finding their way around.
Decision-making AI also weighs uncertainty and trade-offs - like delivery apps balancing speed, cost and which driver is closest.
Key takeaways
Planning = finding the best sequence of actions
A* search powers maps and games
Decision-making balances trade-offs and uncertainty
