1.4 Goals and Objectives of AI
AI aims to automate boring stuff, help humans make better decisions, and solve problems too big or fast for us to handle alone.
Chapter 1: Introduction to Artificial Intelligence
Why build AI at all? The big goals fall into a few buckets. First: automation - letting machines handle repetitive tasks so humans don't have to sort 10,000 emails by hand.
Second: augmentation - helping humans do things better, like a doctor getting a second opinion on a scan or you getting writing feedback at 2am. Third: problem-solving at scale - crunching amounts of data no human could read in a lifetime, like predicting protein shapes or weather.
There's also the long-term research goal some labs chase: building AI that can learn anything a human can (called AGI). That one is still very much a work in progress.
Key takeaways
Automate the boring stuff
Augment human skills, don't just replace them
Handle problems at a scale humans can't
